Uni phase, part 2

After completing my first assignment of a group presentation, working with the most difficult people on the course possible, and celebrating with large quantities of wine in Varsity at 5pm, today was a new start. Finally the stress of the last 8 weeks was over, and I’m now looking at the next 6.
Weeks leading up to January are going to see another 5 assignments, exams and presentations, none of which I can believe will be as painful as the last.
So today, after a well deserved lie in and quick clean up of the flat, for the notorious ‘flat inspections’, ”of course you’ll be treated as adults at uni”, the planning of phase 2 began.
A disappointing find occured when I discovered most of the recommended readings were at the Headingley campus library, so settled for a particularly battered looking textbook on theory until tomorrow.
Yesterday also came with a shock of realising people are already at the stage of planning their living next year, it is still November right? As in 2 months since I first got here? Panic of realising I’d have to decide between commuting but getting to see the boyf every day and finding flatmates but getting to stay in Leeds set in. So as always there’s another thing to add to the ever growing ‘to do list’. Best get on with #1: Sort out my January placement.

The Good and the Bad of a Weekend

Last Thursday saw the start to one of the best weekend’s I’ve had in Leeds, well the only weekend I’ve had in Leeds really since i’m usually at home. But this time my gorgeous lovely guy of a boyfriend came to see me.
I finally got to do all the coupley things there is to do in Leeds rather than going out with a group of people I hardly know to places I don’t like. From going for an AMAZING meal at wagamama onto Fab, my favourite bar I’ve been telling Dave (the gorgeous lovely guy) about since last year. Anyone from Hull can kind of appreciate what I mean if I describe it as a colourful Spiders with more atmosphere, to spending a freezing afternoon walking around town finishing off in a toasty coffee shop.
Just the general not having to worry about how much time I have left until the last train leaves to Leeds on Sunday night was great, until Dave had to leave here anyway then it turned out to be just as hard letting him go than it is leaving him.
Back to another week of working myself stupid to make the week pass quicker and the weekend come sooner…

Week 6 of uni and the past fortnight has seen me spending less time in my shared student flat and more time commuting from home. I’ve realised I’m spending around 2 nights a week at a place that’s costing me £80 a week, and something tells me I’m wasting money slightly.
The one main thing I’ve been told to do is weigh up the pro’s and con’s of living in both Hull and Leeds, but what do you do when they balance out pretty much the same?
On one hand I’d get to come home to my lovely boyfriend every day and avoid going throuh the torment of missing him every week, but on the other that’s all I’m coming home for. Anyone who’s ever spent any length of time in Hull will know it has very little to offer and is most definatley not the place to start a PR career, whereas Leeds is a city I love living in and could see myself staying in after uni.
Sometimes I think the real question I have to answer is could I see myself getting up at 5.30am every Monday for the commute? I’m not a morning person, I know that much from the struggle to set off at 8am from Leeds just to get to Headingley.
Overall I’d save a lot of money commuting, and the people I know who do are glad they do, but could I trust myself to go to every lecture if I have to travel for an extra 2 hours, especially for PR Theory on a Wednesday?
    Any advice welcome!
